HOME    usage    How to use the camera in conjunction with our store's HDMI-to-USB capture card?

Using the camera in combination with our store's HDMI-to-USB capture card for video recording or live streaming is a very common application scenario, especially suitable for using DSLR cameras, mirrorless cameras, or cameras as high-quality video sources. Here are the detailed operation steps:

mailRequired equipment:

  • Camera (such as DSLR camera, mirrorless camera, digital video camera, etc.)
  • Our store's HDMI-to-USB capture card
  • USB data cable (for connecting the capture card to the computer)
  • Computer (Windows or macOS)
  • OBS Studio or other video capture software (free)
  • Camera HDMI output cable (usually Mini HDMI or Micro HDMI, choose according to the camera model)

mailOperation steps:

1. Ensure the camera settings are correct:

  • Enable the clear output mode for the camera: Most cameras can output video signals via HDMI, but sometimes the "Clear Output" or "No Display Information" mode needs to be enabled. This means that the menu and settings information on the screen will be removed, ensuring that only the pure picture is output.

For some cameras, you may need to enter the "Settings menu" to find the HDMI output settings and set them to "Clear Output" or "No Interface Display" mode.

2. Connect the camera and capture card:

Connect the HDMI output port of the camera (usually Mini HDMI or Micro HDMI) to the HDMI input port of the capture card using a suitable HDMI cable.

Connect the USB output port of the capture card (USB-A or USB-C) to the USB port of the computer. To ensure stable data transmission, it is recommended to use USB 3.0 or higher versions of the port.

3. Set up the computer and software:

Open OBS Studio or other video capture software.

In OBS, click the "Source" panel in the lower left corner, click the "+" button → select "Video Capture Device".

In the pop-up window, select your capture card device, usually displayed as "USB Video" or "HDMI Capture" etc.

Configure the resolution and frame rate, recommend choosing 1080p 30fps or 60fps to ensure clear and smooth pictures.

enlightenedNote: Some cameras may only support specific resolution outputs, ensure to select a resolution compatible with the camera's output.

4. Audio settings:

Audio synchronization issue: Most HDMI capture cards only capture video signals and do not have built-in audio. If audio is needed, you may need to use an additional audio input device or microphone to synchronize audio.

In OBS, you can:

Right-click the video device → Properties → check "Use custom audio device", select the corresponding audio source.

Or add an audio input capture device, select a microphone or other audio device.

5. Start recording or live streaming:

After setting up OBS, you can start recording or live streaming.

If your camera supports real-time autofocus and high-definition video output, when using the camera for live streaming, it can provide very high-quality picture effects.

Common problems and solutions:

mailNo picture:

  • Ensure the camera is set to the clear output mode and confirm the HDMI cable and connection are correct.
  • Check if the HDMI output port of the camera is working properly.

mailSilence issue:

  • If the camera does not support HDMI embedded audio capture, you can use an external microphone for recording, or add an audio input capture device through OBS.

mailPicture delay:

  • Using a USB 3.0 or higher version port can reduce picture delay and avoid using a USB 2.0 interface.
  • You can adjust the audio delay settings in OBS to ensure synchronization between the picture and the sound.

mailThe capture card is not recognized:

  • Please check if the capture card is correctly connected and ensure that the USB port has sufficient bandwidth to support video capture.
  • Make sure your computer system and software have correctly installed the driver.

heartWith our HDMI to USB capture card, you can easily connect the camera to your computer for high-quality video recording or live streaming. Using OBS Studio or other video capture software, you can capture the picture from the camera in real time and synchronize the audio as needed. Just follow the above steps and enjoy a professional-level live streaming or video recording experience.
