HOME    usage    How to Use Switch in Combination with Our Store's Capture Card?

The complete steps for using Switch in conjunction with an HDMI-to-USB capture card are as follows:

mail1. Prepare Equipment

  • Nintendo Switch console
  • Original Switch base (for outputting HDMI signal)
  • HDMI video capture card (any model from our store is supported)
  • High-speed HDMI cable
  • Data cable (USB-A or USB-C, depending on the interface of the capture card)
  • Computer (Windows or macOS, USB 3.0 interface recommended)
  • Video capture software (such as OBS Studio, PotPlayer, VLC, etc.)

mail2. Connection Method

  • Insert the Switch into the original base and turn on the power (original power adapter)
  • Use the HDMI cable to connect the HDMI OUT of the base to the HDMI IN of the capture card
  • Use the data cable to connect the capture card to the computer (try to insert it into the USB 3.0 interface of the computer)
  • If you are using a capture card with USB-C PD charging function, it is recommended to plug in a fast charging power supply to avoid Switch automatically interrupting the output due to insufficient battery (especially for some models that support direct connection of Switch without the base)

mail3. Capture Software Settings (OBS Studio as an example)

  • Open OBS software
  • Click +to add video capture device” → Select your capture card (generally displayed as USB Video, USB3.0 Video, Mac Video, etc.)
  • Set the resolution to 1920x1080 and the frame rate to 60fps (corresponding to the default output of Switch)
  • Click OK, and the Switch's screen should be displayed in the preview window
  • If you want to capture audio, add audio input capture, select the audio device of the capture card (such as USB Digital Audio, USB Audio Device)
  • If the audio is out of sync, enable audio buffering or delay correction in the advanced settings

mail4. Common Problems and Troubleshooting Methods

  • Black screen or no signal:
  • Ensure the HDMI cable is of good quality and firmly connected
  • Check if the Switch has successfully started and connected to the base
  • In the Switch settings, fix the output resolution to 1080p or 720p (avoiding the "auto" mode causing compatibility issues)
  • Try inserting the capture card into another USB port (preferably USB 3.0)
  • In OBS settings, try disabling or enabling buffering, color space, etc. for compatibility

mailNo audio:

  • OBS does not correctly add audio input capture
  • The sound is set to "play only without output" or muted
  • Using headphones for output may cause the audio not to be transmitted to HDMI
  • Confirm if the capture card model supports audio (some low-end models only support video)
  • Switch automatically goes black when the battery is depleted:
  • If using a direct connection type capture card without the base, be sure to connect a PD fast charging power supply
  • Switch will automatically stop HDMI output when low on battery. It is recommended to play while charging

mail5. Additional Suggestions

  • It is not recommended to use Switch's "auto resolution" setting. Prioritize manual setting to 1080p
  • If the computer's performance is weak, it is recommended to reduce OBS encoding quality or switch to PotPlayer, VLC for testing screen capture

enlightenedSome of our models support the "loop out" function, allowing simultaneous connection of TV and computer usage It is recommended to use OBS Studio version 31 or above. This version has better compatibility.
